Kiwi, kiwi, and more kiwi!

I'm watching drama, while updating my blog.

I'm soooooooooooooooooo lazy to update but i just gotta do it, to keep my blog alive and keep my readers with my blog :D.

Alright, Te Puke is the kiwi capitol, with 3 majors kiwi packhouse companies, which is Seeka, Satara and Trevelyan.

And Te Puke itself has 18 packhouses, Trevelyan has 3 packhouses in the town, which is also the best facilities packhouse among the 3, both recommended by my friend and in the internet.

I love Trevelyan environment at the first sign, much different with Seeka and Satara, that is a small and cosy packhouse rather than the big factory with dust.

If you are about to come and ready to work in kiwi packhouse, i would recommend you to Trevelyan before try to Seeka and Satara. The detail info bout Trevelyan please link to http://www.trevelyan.co.nz/.

Before start my life in trevelyan, give you some info regarding kiwi packhouse. Kiwi season start from middle of March till July, every backpacker rush to Te Puke to look for kiwi packhouse or kiwi picking job during these months, because this is the most visit attraction here and the pay is really good.

My ankle been twisted for 5 times, i dont think i can take the kiwi picking job, which my friend told me its not easy at all, you've to work outdoor and relocated almost everyday, mostly guys would take this job coz it mostly pay based on how much you can pick.

While in packhouse, you could either apply grader (grade the class of the kiwi), packer (pack the kiwi), repacker (check and repack the packed kiwi).

The minimum pay for seasonal worker is NZD 12 per hour. I work as a repacker in Trevelyan, and the pay is NZD 14 per hour, work 6 day per week, from 730am till 5pm, its a day shift.

I forgot the night shift time, but if not mistaken, it start from 630pm till the next morning.

In Trevelyan, there are 2 15 minute smoko section and half hour lunch time. Lunch time doesn't count in your pay, so you got 9 hours pay everyday. As for me, i got pay weekly and its about NZD 606 after tax deduction (you must has got a IRD number, which is tax account before you start working).

I cant think of more info, if you do have some question just leave me comment and i would be happy to answering you.

Ok, now my story.

BK has been Te Puke 2 years ago, he worked as picker that time and he strongly recommended me to come here before April, if i really wish to get a packhouse job.

Of course you could apply online, but i don't think its really work, of course some people i met here they do get the job from internet, but its easier to get the job by visit the packhouses one by one, filling form and go and ask for job everyday.

Sound pity? Neh, you're a backpacker, and you need to survive, you will not pity after you gotta the job, or else, you will be more pity.

So i do, i got the 18 packhouse list with address in Te Puke library, and luckily we got a car, so we drive to every packerhouses and ask for a job.

The first day we went we has got nothing, every packhouse told us either we're too early (the season only start by April) or too late (1st batch seasonal work has taken). We only got a job few days later we reached Te Puke, but the best thing is we came earlier, so we could work till the season end, which is at least 3 months.

And luckily we got the best packhouse, Trevelyan.

The photos of this blog taken during the off day of packhouse, just we're in the ECPI (Export Consignment Product Inspection) team and we have to check and repack the kiwi before send to export.
So you see the resting area is totally empty, except the few people of us.

And this is the reason why we dare to take photo in the factory, which is usually not allow in the factory.

My task of work is, check the kiwi, find the punture, rots and soft fruit. If we found a lot of bad fruit in the checking, we have to repack the whole pallet of fruits and find all the bad fruit out.

My place to STAND! Stand 9 hours all the way!

Trevelyan allows staffs to take back kiwi that not up to the product standard, and ECPI has the priority to choose the best fruit among the bad fruit.
This is only application in the first 2 weeks we work there, but not in this week =(, coz we're tooooooooooo over and other department found this is not fair.

Ok la, we're over, 4 of us took 4 full box of kiwi home, like below =D.

Hell lot of kiwi
Oh yea, Kim Hoe and Williem are working in Seeka Packhouse as grader. The best thing to work as grader is, they could get weird kiwi, like below :D

Will named it "Penis Kiwi", its ONE kiwi not THREE kiwi!

Has good laugh people, but don't ask me to bring back to Malaysia, someone book from my housemate edy.

Alright perhaps next time will take more photo bout my work, such as friends in know in Trevelyan?

Papamoa Beach

Pick up a little bout my NZ life.

I only know Welcome Bay (Where my cottage located at) is under Tauranga, but not Te Puke. Welcome Bay is in the middle of Tauranga and Te Puke, so in another words, my cottage is convenience to go small town, and the big city.

And Tauranga located in Bay of Plenty, where near the beach called Papamao Beach.

Welcome Bay just 10 minute driving distance from the beach.

Gael (my landlord) told us once that Papamao Beach has a big shopping area, which cannot find in Te Puke, so one of the day in previous week (before start working) we decided to drive to the shopping area and look for some warm clothes.

Papamoa Fashion Island

The shopping area

To get some warm clothes was the ultimate aim, and we don't expect much on the beach, but it turn up to a surprise.

The beach is amazing, that i couldn't find any in Malaysia beaches.

Free seafood we found on the beach!

We're in autumn, the weather is not warm although big sun is hanging on the sky. My previous experience in UK told me that, big sun doesn't mean hot, just don't forget UK is somewhere near with north point. And NZ is somewhere near with southern point.
The strong wind is killing me, like really, while all the whites just with their bikini. =.=

I'm just an Asian who born and raised in somewhere with summer all year long.

But i enjoyed very much on the beach, as well as doggies and birds :D.

I been Papamoa Beach twice, the 1st time just 3 of us, the 2nd times with our new housemate from Taiwan.

Better sun light in the 2nd visit

And more visitor too

And i'm goin to the beach again later, with another 2 new housemates from Malaysia.

Wish me have a good day readers, i just have to get back to the life out from sadness.

护身符

我原来是要写别的,在我看我弟的部落格前。

看见他的照片,读他写公公的葬礼,在我身在这场葬礼5个小时距离的土地上。

才发觉,我其实是更心疼我的爸爸,

心疼我那位已经没有爸爸妈妈的爸爸;

我那位不断包容我任意妄为的爸爸;

我那位给予我支持和信任的爸爸;

Yoyo with flat battery =(

I took long time to think if i want to update my blog or not, i just too tired and i don't have enought photos to support my post.

I told you guys i will continue the place i staying now right? I told you guys that the owner of the cottage owning a mountain right, the whole mountain only have 3 houses, and a barn, was the game house of her children.

2 houses stayed by the onwer and one of her son, another cottage rent for us and the barn rent for the other backpackers.

I love the barn and the caravan outside of the house personaly, but we happy with the cottage too.

So the 2nd part of the place that i staying is bout the barn.

Failed to capture the barn, only got the caravan.

The classic bar inside the barn

The hall of the barn

Sun and Mei Yee

Sun with the picture i love very much

Mei Yee with another wall with a lot of photos

And a cat fro no where

See i said i don't have much photos to support the post! The decoration of the barn is fantastic! A lot of old stuff and its really really nice. Since there is some Agentina and Spanish staying in the barn, i just cant sneak in and take photo, well, perhaps later when i get closer with them :p.

Ok now bout Yoyo.
We got Yoyo with 1700NZD, everything in the car is nice but we know too later about car, we just check the very basic thing about car before got the car.

So we ignore about the battery.

And our car's battery was flat when we're in rush to see the cottage for the first time.

But the owner of the cottage is really really nice, she helps use to borrow the jumper and charge the car. Oh yea, by the way her name is Gael, very nice lady. Will got her photo and post here soon :D.

So the husband of Gael called Dough, Dough owns a work shop (Yea they're damn rich!) and borrow us the battery charger while we're waiting the work shop to re-open after the Easter day.

So finally, the work shop that Dough recommend is Repco, a car spare part store in Te Puke.

Yea, car spare part store, just sell spare part, we can get the battery, but they'll not change for you.

And i have no idea how to change the idiot battery.

Boss: We're not suppose to touch car, my lady.
The Blogger: but i've no idea at all..

He's looking at me, and i looking at him.

15 seconds later.

Boss: Ok young lady, let's do this before my boss catch me.
=D

People here are soooooooooooooooo nice!

And hey, he's not available, coz he's an uncle, old one, like below.

Right after the nice uncle change the battery, someone called him and he leave us with saying

"Oh i'm in trouble!" with a big smile on her face still.

And he gave me a very good discount, 120NZD, with 3 years warrantly.

This is the cutest part of NZ-ian and i love it very much!

Ok, tomorrow about my work, or hot spring water trip, huh? hehe
