New Zealand: Te Puke - No more kiwi aka last day in Trevelyan

I know i promised will keep my blog update but i didn't.

I'm not busy, i'm so free actually, because i'm officially jobless.

Well, the kiwi fruit packing season was ended, and there start the repacking season.

Usually packhouse will pick people from packing season, but there was like 250 out of 800, which mean more than half people gonna lose the job.

Like me.

Well, i was a repacker during packing season, plus i was chosen to be the QC of a table, a lot of people thought i must enter to the repacking season.

But it wasn't.

The one who's picking people is from night shift, and rumor said she doesn't like day shift people, like me, who's from day shift.

And i bet this rumor is kind of true, so far people who got called to go back for repacking season are from night shift, day shift? Just permanent staff gotten.

The receptionist doesn't showed friendly but annoyed when everyone go back to the packhouse and ask bout repacking job.

Like me.

And i been told that for the first batch list, don't have my name there. I have to go back and ask couples of week later.

Well, i got a holiday, like 2 weeks holidays, with no income.

I believe there are jobs, either in Trevelyan or the other packhouse, just the repacking season isn't fully running yet. Just like the packing season, when the season go fast, they need lot of people.

Like one of the kiwi i met here, he told me "The job will come and look for you couple of weeks later, just stay here and go for holidays girl, no worry, its same at every years."

So i'm not goin anywhere like the other, some of the people that i know are goin to north, and south, Te Puke becomes a real quiet and small town, will much lesser of backpackers.

Including my housemates, Williem and Hoe, they're leaving by last week, head to Auckland and some other place.

Well too far, will post bout their leaving in another post.

For the last day of packing season, Trevelyan prepare a buffet breakfast for us, James the boss gave few words and make us really proud to be a part of Trevelyan.

Grader place

I belong to ECPI (Export Consignment Product Inspection), which mean, repacker.
Before sending off the kiwi fruit to the port, the pallet of fruit has to get a pass by our team, we will check 300 fruit from the pallet, if the puncture or bad fruit more than the amount that we allow, we gonna repack the whole pallet.

So if you guys are with my facebook too, now you know why Troy and Petr or someone love to tease me with something like "New pallet same grower REPACK!"

This is because i prefer check, but not repack. Repack the whole pallet of fruit is not fun at all, trust me.

Because i was the QC, my task is different with the other repacker, which i have to check the work that done by the other repacker, and record it down and report to my supervisor.

And i gonna make sure i have check on everyone, record everything clear and report everyone result.

If anyone in the table i in-charge in make trouble, i'm the first will be called. And sometime i feel dilemma to record down the mistake i found from the check, because everyone in the table are my friend, my housemates, we're enter to this team at the same time, i feel i'm not qualify to check their work but supervisor think i can handle this.

Well not complaining, just the opening for the photos showed below. My work place.

Repacking fruit

Yea no sitting, from 730am till 5pm.

When you took one bad fruit out from the box, you have to replace a donor to the box, and my job is to check the work, and find out where is the pallet checking goin to, where to get the donor from, which pallet can take the lose and which are not, if the pallet which is not suppose to take the lost but it lose, where to find donor and replace, paper work, waste fruit bucket check to make sure repacker are not dumping nice fruit and stuff like this.

While a normal repacker is, check the fruit, take out bad fruit, replace good fruit, collect donor left and pass it to me, that's all.

And we're taking same pay =(

But well, i learn more than the other, at least i got more chance to practise my speaking with
local, a lot of time i have to report what i had done to the supervisor.

And make a lot of friends, locally, and internationally.

Some of them are repacker, some of them are packer

2 months been working here, and i hope to work with Trevelyan in the repacking season, jsut the best packhouse in Te Puke.

Father Lord, i love this packhouse and wish to continue work here, bless me!
